Like Mary
“The Lord answered, “Martha, Martha! You are worried and upset about so many things, but only one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen what is best, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:41-42 CEV
Because we are so busy with life all around us, and the demands of our day to day lives, it’s easy to neglect the things that really matter. We often find ourselves, upset, troubled, and pulled away by many distractions.
These verses reminded me of something that is easy to forget. It’s not only important for this present time, but for eternity. The most important thing we can do in this life is to take time to sit at the feet of Jesus and listen. This is the place that we find comfort, peace, encouragement, hope and so many other things that make our life better. There will come a time, whether now, later in life, or in eternity, that we will realize the importance of spending time with God, Jesus, and Holy Spirit. It is something that no one can take away from us and it will always add immeasurable value to our lives.
We’ve been given an opportunity to choose to follow in Martha’s footsteps or Mary’s. Martha had a good heart and was a great servant, don’t get me wrong. I believe she wanted everything to be perfect for Jesus. But, it’s true, spending time with Jesus is always going to be the better choice. Every day we get to choose, and every day I hope I choose to sit at His feet long enough to hear His voice.
