Loving Others

“You will do all right, if you obey the most important law in the Scriptures. It is the law that commands us to love others as much as we love ourselves. But if you treat some people better than others, you have done wrong, and the Scriptures teach that you have sinned.”  James 2:8-9 CEV

If we just all listened to these verses and actually lived them out we wouldn’t be witnessing the chaos going on around us. We’re called to love one another without bias, or prejudice, or any other filter in place.

There are times I have to ask God to show me how He sees certain people because I have a hard time loving them the way I see them. The truth is, they aren’t any different than me in the way God loves them and the way He expects me to love them. God loves me even when I’m at my worst and that’s not very pretty to look at.

When we make judgements about people just by looking at them, or listening to them, those judgements dictate how we treat them. When that decision is lacking love, these verses say that’s not right, in fact, it’s sin. I want to do what’s pleasing in God’s eyes so I need to choose to love others the way God loves me. I can’t do that in my own strength, but I can with God’s help.
