Others Focused

“Let us think about each other and help each other to show love and do good deeds.”  Hebrews 10:24 NCV

It’s one thing to help each other.  It’s another to help someone else to show love and do good deeds for others.  The passion translation says it this way: Discover creative ways to encourage others and to motivate them toward acts of compassion, doing beautiful works as expressions of love.”  This is God’s heart!

It’s difficult sometimes to not get caught up in what our friends and loved ones may be struggling with and to take on their grief, sorrow, outlook, ideals, etc. That isn’t good for either of us if they’ve turned their heart inward.  It can cause us to do the very opposite of what this verse says. God wants us focusing on others and how we can best show them His love.  Sometimes we have to be that person that helps someone else think about their role as a Christ follower.

This doesn’t mean we don’t sympathize with them, but we want to make sure we’re encouraging them to keep helping others, to keep showing love, and doing good things. What’s awesome is we can ask Holy Spirit to help us find creative ways to do this. There is nothing that can lift our spirits more than helping someone else, and that is one reason we’re being reminded to motivate others to do beautiful works as expressions of love.  Then God’s love will fill both you and them!
