Seek His Face
“Seek the Lord and His strength; Seek His face continually.” Psalm 105:4 NASB
For some reason, the thought came to me this morning about seeking God’s face and what that really means. We’re told to do this in the well known 2 Chronicles 7:14, “If my people who belong to me will humbly pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land.”
Our faces say a lot about us. They reflect what’s going on inside of us, aka our heart. If someone is happy, sad, scared, angry, relaxed, etc., we can see it on their face. If we seek to look to the face of God, we will see what’s on His heart.
This verse specifically talks about seeking God’s face for a reason. To me, it means I’m seeking to look directly at Him so my focus is on God and not anyone or anything else. I can’t look at someone’s face and something else at the same time. He’s asking us to focus on Him and once we do that we’re able to see God more clearly, more accurately. If we will seek to look into His face we’ll see the true nature and character of God. His presence is found when we seek His face and that’s exactly what He’s asking us to do.
