Sneaky Little Thing Called Pride
Pride is a spirit that sneaks up on us and disguises itself in subtle ways so we don’t always recognize when we’ve partnered with it. As we see in Daniel, King Nebuchadnezzar had to learn the hard way about the consequences of pride. He was so full of it, he allowed it to blind him to the truth when it was spoken to him. Because of that he spent seven years living like an animal, literally.
I’ve been humbled by the Lord and it’s not fun. Thankfully it wasn’t to the same degree as the king! But God will humble us if we don’t humble ourselves. I am thankful for those corrections but I’ve learned the value in taking heed to warnings instead of waiting for God to make the correction for me. I have to be reminded regularly to check myself for pride and get it out of my soul because it does sneak in.
I love how the king was able to share this lesson and give praise to the King of heaven. You can see his heart completely changed and he was then able to give glory and honor to God instead of misdirecting it to himself. As the king said, “His works are faithful and right and His ways are just.”
“Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, Whose works are all faithful and right and Whose ways are just. And those who walk in pride He is able to abase and humble.” Daniel 4:37 AMPC
