The Option of Peace

Do you find it harder to stay in peace in 2020? You’re not alone! This timeless verse reminds us of a few very important truths. When Jesus left the earth He gave us a priceless inheritance, the Holy Spirit and peace.

He is cautioning us not to be lied to about this peace He’s left us. It’s not like the peace the world offers. It’s not based on lies or hidden agendas. If we can understand that the peace He left us is supernatural, it helps us stop trying to conjure it up on our own.

I appreciate the specific instruction at the end of this verse. Jesus knew what we would face so He warned us to limit the things that agitate and disturb us, like the news, social media, negative thinkers, etc. God doesn’t want us to be intimidated, fearful, cowardly, or unsettled. If you are walking in any of those behaviors it’s time to get refocused on this verse! It’s time to make adjustments to what you give your attention to.

Jesus doesn’t want us to stick our head in the sand but He does want us to stay focused on God and His promises. When the verse says, “Stop allowing yourselves to feel this way”, it suggests we have an option. Let’s choose to exercise that option daily so we can experience the peace Jesus left us as our inheritance.

“Peace I leave with you; My [own] peace I now give and bequeath to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. [Stop allowing yourselves to be agitated and disturbed; and do not permit yourselves to be fearful and intimidated and cowardly and unsettled.]”. John 14:27 AMPC
