The Right Thing

“If someone does wrong to you, do not pay him back by doing wrong to him.  Try to do what everyone thinks is right.  Do your best to live in peace with everyone.” Romans 12:17-18 NCV

I look at all of the unrest, anger, and even hatred that is in the world today and it makes me ask, how did we get here? God gave us instructions on how to live at peace with one another.  He even gave us the great commandment, to love God with all our heart, soul, and mind and to love others the way we love ourselves. Somewhere along the way we lost sight of that. 

I don’t expect unbelievers to know this or follow it, but I do have that expectation for Christ followers.  We may not agree with everything that is being said or done but our first priority is to show love.  That doesn’t mean we stay silent. It means we speak the truth in love. 

Love is always the foundation and everything should flow from it.  It’s our responsibility to do our best to live in peace with everyone, even those that have done us wrong. Trying to do what everyone thinks is right isn’t people pleasing, it’s just doing the right thing.
